Grant access
Open Settings in brieflyOS, choose Calendar and Reminders, then grant Full Access so the agenda can read and create items.
Choose your sources
Enable only the calendars and reminder lists you want. Account names appear under each source so duplicate names are easier to identify.
Pick a home mode
Select the working view that matches how you think. Focus Lane starts with one next move and reveals the rest of the day below.
Capture naturally
Tap the add button and type a task or event. Dates, times, and tags parse as you type. Done becomes available after the first character.
iCloud sync
What syncs
Journal entries, drawings, and brieflyOS preferences use the app's private iCloud storage. Events and reminders sync through the Apple accounts configured in Calendar and Reminders.
If another device is not updating
- Confirm every device uses the same Apple ID for iCloud.
- Confirm iCloud Drive is enabled.
- Open brieflyOS on each device and choose Sync Now.
- Check Sync Diagnostics for the container
iCloud.com.brieflyos.app. - Use Reset Local Sync Cache only after unsynced local changes are saved elsewhere.
Smart Triage
Smart Triage turns Inbox items into editable planning drafts. It can suggest a cleaner title, due date, all-day setting, Reminder List, priority, and tags. Review and edit every suggestion before choosing Apply.
Choose how intelligence runs
- Priority Baseline: deterministic built-in rules that work locally and offline.
- Apple On-Device: uses Apple Foundation Models on supported devices without sending task text to a third-party AI provider.
- OpenAI Luna: an optional provider that uses your own API key and runs only after you enable it.
- Automatic: prefers Apple On-Device, then an enabled Luna provider, then the built-in baseline.
Your OpenAI key is stored in Keychain. iCloud Keychain synchronization is optional. See the Privacy Policy for complete details.
Widgets and Live Activities
Add brieflyOS from the Home Screen, Lock Screen, or Control Center widget galleries. Home widgets are available in small, medium, and large sizes; Lock Screen widgets include inline, circular, and rectangular layouts.
- Priority-first widgets surface the most useful open task and refresh with your day.
- Control Center actions open Quick Capture or Today.
- A priority Live Activity shows one eligible open task with a direct Complete action.
- Future timed reminders remain out of the Live Activity until they become due.
- Sensitive content is redacted or suppressed where privacy settings require it.
Mac Quick Entry
Enable the global shortcut in brieflyOS Settings. You can record a custom key combination. Quick Entry opens its compact capture panel without opening the main window unless that preference is enabled.
- Return saves the entry and closes the panel.
- Escape closes without saving.
- Entries without a parsed date, time, or tag go to Inbox for triage.
- The pinned-task window can remain above other apps and be dragged anywhere on screen.
Nightly Recap
Use the Start Nightly Recap and End Nightly Recap actions in Apple Shortcuts. Connect them to Sleep Focus automations and choose Run Immediately.
- Each nonempty line is saved to the Reminders Inbox immediately.
- The dim red interface accepts text or voice input.
- The Live Activity offers fast access while Sleep Focus is active.
- Empty lines are ignored.
Apple Watch
The Watch app is included with brieflyOS and can run independently after installation. Add a brieflyOS complication for your priority snapshot or direct Voice Capture into Inbox.
If the Watch agenda is stale, open brieflyOS on the Watch and iPhone, confirm both use the same iCloud account, and allow Calendar and Reminders access on both devices.
Themes and alternate icons
Home modes, Green, Blue, and Red color families, light and dark appearances, and alternate app icons are available in Settings. On Mac, the selected icon is also applied to the running app and Dock tile.
If a Mac icon reverts, reopen brieflyOS, select the icon again, and restart the Dock from Terminal with killall Dock.
Privacy controls and deletion
brieflyOS does not require an account and does not include advertising or cross-app tracking. Permissions can be changed in Apple Settings or System Settings at any time.
For deletion steps and a complete description of data handling, read the Privacy Policy or email [email protected].
