brieflyOS does not sell personal information, serve ads, track you across apps, or use third-party advertising analytics.
Who this policy covers
This Privacy Policy applies to the brieflyOS applications for iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch, including widgets, complications, Live Activities, App Intents, and TestFlight versions.
Information brieflyOS accesses
Calendar and Reminders
With your permission, brieflyOS uses Apple EventKit to read and modify the calendars and reminder lists you select. Events and reminders remain in Apple Calendar and Apple Reminders or the accounts connected to those system apps.
Notes and journal content
Text entered in Quick Notes, daily journal entries, drawings, and Nightly Recap may be stored locally by brieflyOS. If iCloud sync is enabled and available, this content is synchronized through the app's private CloudKit database.
Focus profiles and preferences
Selected calendars, reminder lists, theme choices, home modes, archived home-screen items, named locations, and other preferences are stored on your devices and may use Apple-provided iCloud key-value storage when needed for cross-device functionality.
Storage and iCloud sync
brieflyOS is local-first. Journal changes are written on the device before they are reconciled with the app's private iCloud database. Calendar and reminder information remains in EventKit and the accounts configured in Apple's system apps.
iCloud and CloudKit are operated by Apple and are governed by the terms and privacy controls associated with your Apple ID. brieflyOS does not operate a separate user-account server.
Location information
Location access is optional. If you create a named location, brieflyOS stores its coordinates, radius, schedule, and notification text on the device. Apple Core Location monitors the circular region so brieflyOS can schedule a local arrival notification during the days and times you choose.
brieflyOS uses low-power geofencing rather than continuous GPS tracking. Named location coordinates are not sent to the developer or used for advertising, analytics, profiling, or tracking.
Voice and speech recognition
Microphone and speech-recognition access are optional. When you choose dictation or Watch voice capture, audio may be processed by Apple's speech-recognition services according to your device settings and Apple's privacy practices. brieflyOS uses the resulting text for the entry you requested and does not retain an independent copy of the audio recording.
Task intelligence and optional OpenAI processing
Smart Triage always has a deterministic, on-device mode. When Apple Intelligence is available and selected, language-model analysis is performed by Apple's Foundation Models framework on the device.
OpenAI Luna is an optional cloud fallback that is off by default. If you explicitly enable it and provide your own OpenAI API key, brieflyOS sends the selected reminders' titles, dates, priorities, list names, active Focus name, and, only if you separately enable the setting, reminder notes directly to OpenAI. The request does not pass through a brieflyOS-operated server.
Your OpenAI API key is stored in Keychain and is not saved in brieflyOS preferences or on brieflyOS servers. You may optionally synchronize the key between your brieflyOS devices using iCloud Keychain. OpenAI's terms, privacy practices, retention policies, and API charges apply to those requests. You should not enable OpenAI processing for sensitive tasks you do not want sent to OpenAI.
Notifications and Live Activities
brieflyOS uses Apple notification and ActivityKit systems for due items, location arrivals, priority tasks, and Nightly Recap. Notification content and Live Activity state are created to provide the feature you selected. They are not used for advertising or behavioral measurement.
Diagnostics, TestFlight, and support
Apple may provide crash reports, performance information, screenshots, and TestFlight feedback when you choose to share them. This information is used to diagnose problems and improve brieflyOS.
If you email support, the developer receives the information you choose to include, such as your email address, message, and attachments. Support correspondence is used only to respond to your request, maintain service quality, and satisfy applicable legal obligations.
No advertising or cross-app tracking
brieflyOS does not include third-party advertising networks, does not use advertising identifiers, does not sell or rent personal information, and does not combine your information with third-party data to track you across apps or websites.
Your controls and deletion choices
- Change Calendar, Reminders, Location, Microphone, Speech Recognition, and Notification permissions in Apple Settings or System Settings.
- Select which calendars and reminder lists appear inside brieflyOS.
- Choose built-in rules, Apple On-Device intelligence, or the optional OpenAI Luna provider; disable OpenAI access or remove its API key at any time.
- Delete notes and drawings from brieflyOS.
- Delete named locations from brieflyOS to stop their geofences.
- Use Sync settings to clean local storage or reset the local synchronization cache.
- Remove calendar events or reminders in brieflyOS or their Apple system app when the item is editable.
- Delete the app to remove its local container. iCloud data can also be managed through your Apple ID and iCloud settings.
Children's privacy
brieflyOS is a general productivity app and is not directed to children under 13. The app does not knowingly collect information from children for advertising or profiling.
Security
brieflyOS relies on Apple platform protections, application sandboxing, permission controls, and private iCloud storage. No method of electronic storage is perfectly secure, but the app is designed to minimize developer-operated data collection and limit access to the features you choose.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated when brieflyOS adds features or its data practices change. The effective date at the top of this page will be revised when a material update is published.
